Kigali Kids Project
An education initiative to improve
learning opportunities for the children of Rwanda
Education is the key to unlock the future of a generation of Rwandan orphans. In 2008 a shipping container will leave the Crisis Response International in Kansas City filled with educational supplies for the preschool, primary, and vocational schools in Samuduha, Kigali, Rwanda. Some of the items will include classroom materials, student school supplies, furnishings, copier/printer(s), computer(s), digital equipment, and carpentry, masonry, and electrical tools. The container will be filled with both donated and financed items, and there will be collections of donated items at locations throughout the Midwest early next year.

About the Cards from Africa greeting cards –

“Lovingly handmade in Rwanda using recycled paper. This card has been carefully crafted by a young person who is the head of their family because their parents died. They depend on selling these cards to provide food, education, medicine and clothes for themselves and their younger brothers and sisters. You are not only receiving a highly sophisticated piece of creativity, but the person who bought this card for you has directly helped orphaned youth in Rwanda in a dignifying manner, because we practice fair trade principles. What’s more, we’ve incorporated into this card hand-made paper from office waste, making it environmentally friendly. How cool is that? As Quoted in Giving - How Each of Us Can Change the World by Bill Clinton -

“My gift is nothing. I can have everything I need with less than one percent of my wealth. I was born in the right country at the right time, and my work is disproportionately rewarded compared to teachers and soldiers. I'm just giving back surplus claims that have no value to me but can do a lot for others. The people I really admire are the small donors who give up a movie or a restaurant meal to help needy people”. Warren Buffet on giving $30 billion to the Gates Foundation.
